Teacher Workshop on Globalization and International Economics

June 30-July 2, 2008
Sponsored by and held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston

The focus of this year's workshop will be on the economics of immigration, globalization's impact on Ireland, the European Union, Latin America, and Africa, NAFTA, and instructional tools for teaching this content.

Open to the first 40 secondary teachers across New England who register and commit to attending all three days of the workshop.

Graduate Credits

The tuition for the Federal Reserve's Global Economics workshop is $135 a credit and there is a $25 registration fee.

Students need to mail a package that includes:

  • the registration form
  • a certificate of completion
  • a journal of your experiences, and
  • a final 3-5 page reflection concerning the workshop and its impact on your profession

Your work will be mailed to the instructor for review. Once the instructor of record has reviewed your work, he will post a grade and email you to alert you that you can look up your grade online.

Massachusetts teachers: We will provide you with a certificate for the instructional hours. You receive one PDP for each instructional hour.

X Agustín del Río
Agustín del Río is the head of the regional delegation for Banco de México's Monterrey Branch and is a part-time professor of economics at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He previously served as full-time professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey; economist in the Western Hemisphere department of the International Monetary Fund; chief economist of Vitro, a manufacturing conglomerate based in Monterrey; and head of research at the Center for Economic Policy. Del Río has a master's degree in economics and a Ph.D. in econometrics and monetary theory and policy from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
XNigel Nagarajan
Nigel Nagarajan is Counselor and Head of Economic and Financial Affairs at the Delegation of the European Commission to the United States. Before coming to Washington, he worked for the European Commission's economic service in Brussels, specialising in Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), exchange rates and international economic issues. He was contributing co-editor of the Commission's study on EMU After 5 Years, the first comprehensive analysis produced by the Commission of the impact of the single currency on the European economy. He is also the co-author of a European Commission guide to evaluating EU expenditure programmes as well as of a number of articles on international economic issues. Prior to joining the Commission, he worked as an economist for the UK government and as a financial analyst for Cable and Wireless plc. He studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Corpus Christi College, University of Oxford, and holds a Master's degree in Economics from Birkbeck College, University of London. He was born in India and is a UK citizen.
